Mike Sexton’s big cash at the WSOP

Posted by Stefan Dicembre in General, World Series of Poker on June 3, 2008

If you are the type to worry about running into strong players during a tournament, then it was probably best that you avoided the opening event of the 2008 World Series of Poker. Of the 352 runners in the $10,000 Pot Limit Hold’em gold rush, an amazing 84 were WSOP bracelet holders. Between them they had a total of 143 chunks of wrist bling – or 20% of all bracelets won in the series’ 39-year history.

With that in mind, we are delighted to see PartyPoker.com’s ambassador Mike Sexton managed to take fourth place, pocketing a very nice $248,160 for his efforts. Mike, who many of our players met at the recent PartyPoker Million VI cruise in the Mediterranean, is no stranger to cashing at the WSOP – he’s done so an amazing 45, yes 45, times!

While naturally disappointed not to win – the bracelet and nearly $800,000 went to Henad Medic – Mike was very pleased with his start to this year’s WSOP. “I’m happy to have cashed,” he said, “but very disappointed I didn’t win.

“So many times when we were four-handed, one of the other players could have been eliminated but survived.  Oh well, it was a pretty good start to the WSOP.”

This was not his biggest cash by a long shot – in 2006 he won the WSOP Tournament of Champions, picking up $1 million, half of which he gave to charity.

Congratulations, Mike.
