Much hilarity in the hotel bar last night. Our Italian players were sat at the bar and conversation was hard enough as English language didn’t come naturally.
Salavatore Deluca had talked of having 43,100 chips but when the official chips counts came through it stated 431,000 making him chip leader! TYPO – got a couple of calls from media. Salvatore loved the fact that he...
It’s all over for George Grant – all-in against fellow online qualifier Malte. The AQ held up against KJ when nothing came on the board! What a great ride for George, who was a complete poker novice and freerolled his way this far. Next time you will make the money sir!
3pm – it is all going off at Malte Monnig’s table
Player raises on button, Malte re-raises...
1:30pm
It’s the first break of the day, and we still have four players remaining out of 161. The shortest stack, possibly in the entire field, belongs to George Grant. Here George Grant talks about level 1 of day 3:
Daniel Negreanu continues to amass chips, and get a massage!
Approximate chip counts of our four players:
George Grant – 9,000
Malte Moennig –...
463 players sat down for day 2
A total of 463 players made it through to day 2 of the WPT LA Poker Classic. PartyPoker had 11 players returning to take their seats for day 2. Our PartyPoker chip leader at the start of day 2 was Sergei Norikov from Russia who was in position 27.

Those who turned up five minutes before registration ended seem to be faring well today as the eliminations come hard and fast. Antonio Esfandiari didn’t even arrive until today, so had his chip stack completely blinded out through day one. Here is what his seat looked like last thing last night:
They don’t call him ‘The Magician’ for nothing – that said...

We now have the all important stats for this event.
A total of 745 players have entered the WPT La Poker Classic which has generated a prize pool of $7,152,000. First prize will be a cool $1,778,001 and even 2nd place will walk away over $1,000,000. With the top 72 places getting paid, there is plenty to play for.

As I write this the number of entries for the LAPC Main Event is 713. I have just quickly popped back to hotel and what do you see – pros arriving – just so they can take their seats one minute before registration closes at 5pm.
Mr Hellmuth is in LA but how will he possibly engineer being the last possible person to register? I just saw Hoyt Corkins in the lift and he was...
Welcome to Universal Studios
Monday meant the players who travelled to LA for the WPT Celebrity Invitational had a day off in Los Angeles. We gave the players a couple of options but the overwhelming favourite was a trip to Universal Studios. In total twenty of the players came along for a day of rides, attractions and fun. Some of the favourites included the Simpsons 3D IMAX ride which...
David McGrail, a 24-year-old surveyor from Edinburgh had the deepest run in the WPT Celebrity Invitational at the Commerce Casino in LA. Ace eight against his kings with a straight on the river was enough to send him on his bike. Thank god his friend wasn’t bike riding as he was wearing a kilt.
Last saw these Scots around midnight when I left them in the corporate hospitality...
After a day spent taking in the sights or just taking it easy, the players all converged on the tournament room on the second floor at the Commerce Casino for the WPT Celebrity Invitational. This event is a $200,000 freeroll which attracts many top name poker players as well as a good number of TV and movie stars. This was the reason the players had flown all the way to Los...
