Viva Las Vegas...

Posted by Jeremy Coleman in General on June 26, 2009 | No Comments
The 40th World Series of Poker is well under way and as the players continue converging upon Las Vegas, the excitement level is growing everyday as we get closer to the main event. Participants would be forgiven from thinking that the current global economic crisis was refused entry to the Rio® All Suite Hotel and Casino. Some of the early events have attracted record numbers of...

Ok this is my penultimate day and I wake up with such a headache and nasal congestion, I think I have swine flu, so I’m in the chemist looking for some oinkment, ha-ha. Seriously I feel so rough, I buy another pack of something which was recommended and start by popping 3 tablets straight away. I cant play any tourneys at the Rio as I am off home tomorrow. So, 5 tourneys at the Rio...

Just woke up and it is 06.40, I am so blocked up and been sneezing my head off all night, it’s the air con here it’s a killer! I need some medicine and quick. I arrive at the Rio to buy in the $2,500 NL 6-handed and it is 11.40am 20 minites before the start. After a brief queue at registration, I am told: “Sorry sir, the last seat has just gone.” I start to kick up about...

Ok, so I have played 3 tourneys now and not reached day 2 yet! And it is not going to get any better today because there is a ladies event and a $10k World Championship high-low split 8 or better, err yeah you can keep that one. Blimey what am I going to do today? I go to the gym and cane the bike for an hour then recover in the spa. It’s so amazing in there. I actually hate all...

OMG I have a cracker of a headache and I am absolutely starving. No gym today thank you! Today’s tourney is $5,000 NLH and starts at 12pm, I get ready quick and head over to the Rio as I fancy the All American Burger Bar. Wallop! I have the works and even tried $20 on the keno as my luck has been okay, but no draw there. Properly bloated I walk the longest walk in poker, its from the...

WSOP Blog 2009 Day 4 Well so far so good, I am up $30k and eager to play. There are 2 tourneys today, both $2,500 but the afternoon one is six-handed so I opt for that. I bike ride for 1hr 20 mins in the gym, then lounge around the pool before heading off to the Rio at 4.30pm. Like a doughnut I find out this tourney is Limit! OMG I hate the game, so I decide to get a refund and play...

WSOP Blog 2009 Day 3 Wow! Up early this morning, let’s get the gym out the way first. On the bike doing a couple of 30 mins programmes (the gym here, by the way, is absolutely fantastic) and Roland De Wolfe comes in. “Just gonna bang out a quick mile on running machine” he says. He’s so funny, I love him, but he runs like a heavy weight boxer. We arrange to meet in 2...

I wake up late at 11.30am but manage to get myself over to the RIO and in my seat by 12.15 …phew! Although this year the starting stacks are 3X the buy in and not the pathetic 2X it has been, you still don’t want to miss a level when its 6 handed. So it’s the $1500 NL my first event and we start with 4500 chips, The table is only 5 handed so far and it’s a very lively start....

My plans for this trip are; arrive on 2nd June and play 3 x 6 handed events and any others I fancy if I get busted early, up until the 11th June when I need to get back in England. Return to Vegas on 24th June and stay until the end of main event or when I get busted. Well that’s the plan anyway! I arrive in the lounge at Virgin where my mate Greco is having breakfast with a few...
